WHAT KIND OF WATER ARE YOU DRINKING?

WHERE IS THIS CONTAMINATED DRINKING WATER COMING FROM?

Some countries don't have an option for their drinking water.

HOW GROUND WATER BECOMES YOUR DRINKING WATER

GROUND WATER IS DRINKING WATER

HOW MUCH DO WE DEPEND ON GROUNDWATER?

  • Groundwater supplies drinking water for 51% of the total U.S. population and 99% of the rural population.
  • Groundwater helps grow our food. 64% of groundwater is used for irrigation to grow crops.
  • Groundwater is an important component in many industrial processes.
  • Groundwater is a source of recharge for lakes, rivers, and wetlands.

WHAT IS SURFACE WATER?

Aquifers are typically made up of gravel, sand, sandstone, or fractured rock, like limestone. Water can move through these materials because they have large connected spaces that make them permeable.

Groundwater can be found almost everywhere. The water table may be deep or shallow; and may rise or fall depending on many factors.  Groundwater supplies are replenished, or recharged, by rain and snow melt that seeps down into the cracks and crevices beneath the land's surface

DUMPING RUNOFFS INTO GROUNDWATER

TIRES ARE DUMPED INTO LANDFILLS

Tires take up landfill space and as land is becoming more and more scarce, it will lead towards illegal dumping.

In addition, it is possible for untreated waste from septic tanks and toxic chemicals from underground storage tanks and leaky landfills to contaminate groundwater.

WHAT IS GROUND WATER

Over 50% of the United States population depends on groundwater for drinking water. Groundwater is also one of our most important sources of water for irrigation. Unfortunately, groundwater is susceptible to pollutants.

ALL KIND OF POLLUTANTS LEAK INTO GROUNDWATER

Materials from the land's surface can move through the soil and end up in the groundwater.  Pesticides and fertilizers can find their way into groundwater supplies over time. Road salt, toxic substances from mining sites, and used motor oil also may seep into groundwater. In addition, it is possible for untreated waste from septic tanks and toxic chemicals from underground storage tanks and leaky landfills to contaminate groundwater.
